Experience IS the Best Teacher

I’ve always been the type to live life as it comes. I never really actively pursued anything. My motto was whatever happens, happens. That all changed when I decided to apply for my first internship. I thought I’d just apply so that I could have experience to pad my resume. Never in a million years did I think it’d be this great.  I’m in a great environment filled with people to show me the ropes. Want to know what the best aspect is so far? I have yet to get anyone’s coffee!! I’m actually doing real work in my field.

Before I started my internship everyone asked if I would be able to handle class, my job at the cafeteria and this internship. I am more than happy to say that I can. In fact my time management skills have gotten better. This internship has me excited about what’s to come after graduation. I suggest that every one does at least one internship in their college career. Not only is it an easy boost to the resume but it can also determine if the field of choice is the one for you.

Most people wait until their Junior or Senior year to do internships but I chose to get one early. As they say “the early bird gets the worm”. Don’t wait until the last-minute to get experience in your field. The more time you devote to your craft the longer you have to perfect it. Don’t just stop at one internship either. Experience is a huge resume booster and can be a big help when finding a job in today’s  economy. Companies are looking for people who can get started on the job right away and the best way to do that is to know what you’re doing.  So get out there and take charge of your life. Don’t just wait for opportunity to come to you. Go out there and get it yourself.
